Description:
The 10-minute average observation data in the equatorial lower troposphere (1.1-5.9 km) taken by the boundary layer radar (BLR)-2 at Kototabang, Indonesia (0.20S, 100.32E, 865m MSL). The observation data are stored in the CSV (Comma Separated Values) file named (year)(month)(day).(variable).csv. The variable abbreviations are uwnd, vwnd, wwnd, pwr1, pwr2, pwr3, wdt1, wdt2, and wdt3, which mean zonal, meridional and vertical wind velocities, echo power and spectral width for beam 1-3, respectively. The azimuth and zenith angles of beam 1, 2 and 3 are (0, 0), (0, 15), and (90, 15), respectively, in unit of degree. The numbers of the first line of each file represent altitudes, and the second and below are observational local date and time (year/month/day hour:minute) which corresponds to the center time of averaging period and data at each altitude. The value of 999 means missing data.
Acknowledgement: If you acquire the BLR data at the Kototabang station, we ask that you acknowledge us in your use of the data. This may be done by including text such as the BLR data provided by Research Institute for Sustainable Humanosphere of Kyoto University. We would also appreciate receiving a copy of the relevant publications.

Name: Boundary layer radar (BLR)-2 at the Kototabang observatory
Description: The boundary layer radar (BLR)-2 at Kototabang, Indonesia (0.20S, 100.32E, 865m MSL) was operated at the frequency of 1357.5MHz with a peak transmitted power of 1kW from August 8, 1998 to December 19, 2003. The BLR-2 was originally developed in Mitsubishi Electric Corporation and Kansai Environmental Engineering Center by modifying the BLR-1, Kyoto University, in order to measure the wind velocity in the atmospheric boundary layer. One parabolic antenna with a diameter of 2 m is changed toward three different directions in order to observe the three components of wind velocity. Moreover, the absorption screen of electromagnetic waves was installed around the parabolic antenna to reduce the influence of a ground clutter echoes, and, in addition, the fence was set up around the antenna device. The basic configuration of the transmitting and receiving apparatus and the signal processor is the same as the BLR-1 which is installed at Serpong [Hashiguchi et al., Radio Sci., 30, 1043–1053,1995; Hashiguchi et al., J. Meteor. Soc. Japan, 73, 535–548, 1995]. The BLR-2 has measured the wind velocity in the equatorial lower troposphere since August 1998 [Renggono et al., Ann. Geophys., 19, 889–897, 2001]. Observation by the BLR-2 finished on December 19, 2003, and the BLR-3 observation started on December 25, 2003.

Name: Equatorial Atmosphere observatory at Kototabang
Description: The Equatorial Atmosphere observatory at Kototabang is located at the equator in West Sumatra, Indonesia (0.20S, 100.32E, 865m MSL). In this site, various kinds of instruments (for example, boundary layer radar (BLR), equatorial atmosphere radar (EAR) and meteor wind (MW) radar) have been installed, which measure the equatorial atmosphere including the troposphere, lower stratosphere, upper mesosphere, thermosphere and ionosphere.
